This is completely idiotic and stupid in every sense of the word. What is with the feds thinking they know what goes on in the American classroom? They are so completely clueless!

Here's my rant: one of our best teachers was told today she was going to have to go back to school to become "highly qualified" to teach what she has been teaching for the past 10 years. Am I being silly? Well, all this standardized testing required should be a good measure, shouldn't it? Just to show that I and all her students are not the only ones who think she's one of our best teachers, she has close to a 100% pass rate in her classes on those tests almost every single semester. She teaches early world history, a class intended for tenth and eleventh graders, to eighth graders. The test is built for sophomores and juniors. Yet her eighth graders still pass! Is she good? Of course! Is she leaving us now? Well, the frustration level sure is up there! And now I find out that she's one of four of our teachers who have gotten this news today. Where do they think the replacement teachers are going to be coming from?!!!!!!!!!!! We have pre- and post-tests that show we have good teachers! These teachers work with students in a poor community and yet they achieve. The teachers work together! They work with parents! Why are we chasing them all away?

Rant ended.

Excellent rant. I love a good rant. Yes, it is silly what the goverment does in their attempts to "fix" the education system. Some pencil-neck geek on a committe is making decisions that he or she has no business making.
